Inspired by the Norse
The inspiration behind The Norse Collection reaches back more than a thousand years to the people of Scandinavia. Originating primarily from the regions that are now Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, the Norse became renowned as explorers, traders, settlers, craftsmen, and seafarers.
Beginning in the late eighth century, Norse sailors traveled far beyond their Scandinavian homelands. Their famous longships carried them throughout Europe and across the North Atlantic, eventually establishing settlements in places such as Iceland and Greenland and traveling as far west as North America.
While modern portrayals often focus on Viking warriors and raiders, everyday Norse life was far more diverse. Most Norse people were farmers, fishers, merchants, builders, metalworkers, textile makers, and craftsmen. Life in the northern European climate demanded practical skills and durable goods. Clothing, tools, ships, household items, and personal belongings needed to withstand real use.
